The 30-second version
- Every vented dryer must become ventless, with the old vent capped by 10/1/2026.
- Two ways to do it: the Insignia / Ferguson group buy (one all-in price, blanket ACC approval) or DIY (any ventless model, your own ACC approval + approved installer).
- The group-buy price includes everything — machine + delivery + haul-away + install + vent cap. Effectively free labor, no ACC paperwork.
- Measure your closet before you pick a model — spec-sheet depths lie; this is the #1 mistake.
- After install, claim the ~$210 Seattle City Light rebate yourself (ASKO buyers get a second rebate on top).
1. Background — why this is happening
Insignia is phasing out vented dryers. When you replace your unit the old vent is capped, and all vents must be capped by the 10/1/2026 deadline. The replacement is a ventless dryer (heat-pump / condenser) that needs no exterior vent.
- Whatever you install must be ventless, ACC-approved, and put in by an approved (insurance-on-file) vendor.
- You don't have to use the group buy — but if you go your own way, you handle ACC approval and installer yourself.
- A dryer-only swap (vented → ventless) is possible but isn't part of the group buy — you'd arrange it, and you'll need the right mount kit.
- Is replacement forced now? The firm date is the vent-capping 10/1/2026 deadline.
2. Your options
The two paths
Path A — Insignia / Ferguson group buy (easiest). One all-in price covers the machine, delivery, haul-away of the old unit, install, and vent capping — effectively free labor — plus blanket ACC approval (no individual application). Ferguson installs. White only; stacked or side-by-side to match your setup.
Path B — Do it yourself (more choice). Buy any ventless dryer, get your own ACC approval, use an approved installer, and cover delivery/haul/install/cap yourself. More selection (holiday-sale pricing can rival the group buy), but more legwork.

Recency note: the original group buy was Whirlpool / LG / Miele (2024–2025); a newer high-end ASKO Series 5 European buy was organized separately for 2026 — "not cheaper, just higher quality." Watch for that separate track's email.
⚠️ Measure your closet first (the #1 mistake)
- Leave 4–6" behind the unit for water hoses + drain (confirmed via LG chat, Aug 2025).
- Measure to the door stop, not the back wall — door trim eats ~4" of usable depth.
- Real closets ranged 33.5"–39" deep; several found LG/Whirlpool wouldn't fit once hoses + door clearance were counted (one removed the closet doors).
- Rule of thumb: closet depth (to door stop) ≥ unit body depth + 4–6", and still room to crack the washer door for airing.
- Insignia recommended brands but never mapped which model fits which floor plan — measure at your water line and check the model's installation instructions, not the letter's spec sheet.
3. What residents actually chose & why they like it
The question everyone asks. Here's what neighbors report — community experience, not an endorsement.
- LG WashTower — the popular default. People like the center controls (no step-stool for a stacked unit) and the smaller footprint. Main caveat: a batch had a controller defect causing long/inconsistent dry times — replaced under warranty, and it runs better on basic modes.
- Miele — the quiet favorite. Well-loved and quiet; the trade-off is smaller capacity, so smaller loads.
- ASKO Series 5 — the premium pick. The 2026 European option for people who wanted more capacity and faster dry times and didn't mind paying up ("not cheaper, just higher quality"); bonus, no wash-drum rubber ring to mold.
- Whirlpool — the easy swap. Chosen for the same footprint as the old unit; some report longer dry times.
- All-in-one (LG WashCombo / Samsung) — the space-reclaimers. Fans love recovering closet space, never moving laundry between machines, and no wet washer "bib" to mold. Trade-off: ~2 hr per cycle (can't overlap loads) and smaller capacity.
What people say living with any of them: "damp but not wet" is normal for heat-pump dryers — folded, clothes are dry to the touch. They're quieter, far more energy-efficient, gentle on fabrics, and reclaim space. Commonly-liked extras: app notifications, auto-dispense detergent/softener reservoirs, anti-crease/keep-fresh spin. The main adjustment is longer dry times (~40–60 min mid loads; don't overload — fill ~half; higher spin = faster dry).
4. The process (step by step)
Group buy
- Measure your closet, then review Spec Sheets & Cost: Spec Sheets · Cost · Full drive.
- Place the order via the Google Form in BuildingLink — program contact Joshua, through the building's supply department (not Ferguson's residential/retail store).
- A Ferguson rep contacts you; pay Ferguson directly (not Insignia). Confirm accessories (e.g. pedestal drawers — can't be added later) in writing before scheduling.
- Confirm your install date + tower delivery window. Delivery: South Tower Wed 8a–6p; North Tower Thu 8a–6p, first-come as product is available. Lead times vary — ping Ferguson; the rumored backlog may be stale.
- Install day: be present (or an authorized rep on file with MC); clear the W/D area (they haul the old unit out that way); old unit removed & recycled, new one installed, old vent capped. Ask them to connect the condensate hose to the drain so you never empty a water tank.
- After install: get a corrected Ferguson receipt (your name + model # + apt #), then claim your rebate (below).
DIY
Pick any ventless model → get ACC approval first → schedule an approved (insurance-on-file) installer → they cap the old vent at install. You cover delivery/haul/install/cap.
Rebates (claim yourself)
- Seattle City Light: ~$175 dryer + $35 washer = $210 (confirmed Jan 2026); all three group-buy models believed eligible. Form: formstack.io/A152A. Amounts change yearly — verify before submitting.
- ASKO rebate (ASKO buyers only): a separate ASKO rebate (amount decided between you and ASKO)— on top of the City Light rebate.
- Gotcha: Ferguson's invoice often lacks the model # + apt # City Light wants — that's why you get the corrected receipt first.

Maintenance (protects your warranty)
- Clean the side-vent metal coil (unscrew side panel, nylon brush) and the bottom filter ~yearly. If a warranty tech finds lint, they'll blame it and bill the visit — clean before you call.
- Keep the washer door ajar when idle to prevent mold (all-in-ones avoid the wet rubber "bib").
